Number 5 in the series of QC and VDMX integration tuts, this one shows you how to create your own Quartz Composer plugins for use in VDMX. It covers creating a random number generator as well as a plugin that allows cycling through a series of effects.

The patches created are available as a zip file from my website: hybridvisuals.nl

Nice tut! I was just wondering the name of the effect that is first in the list? If possible also could you post a link to it?

Thank you! You have helped me learn quite a bit. :-)

Thanks for the kind words, Eric. That first effect is actually a custom GLSL shader that simply offsets the RGB channels on the x-axis. Keep your eye on Memo's VDMX site (vdmx.memo.tv). I'll upload it there next time I get a chance.

How do you do that 3d grid in the intro?
  • goto10 3 months ago
hah! good question! basically it involves a cube, iterators, Kineme GL tools and a LOT of noodles and math. it's a bit too complex to explain easily. maybe i'll do a tutorial on it someday ;-)

This is sweet! This definitely beats trying to work with the step sequencer in an unintended manner. Thanks for putting this one together... and Quartz Composer tutorials in general as it is somewhat of an esoteric art due to the lack of documentation out there... mind you if I knew japanese I could read that QC book.

Got a paypal donate button somewhere to potentially encourage you to make more?

Thanks a lot Louis! Enthousiastic feedback like yours is enough encouragement to keep doing the tuts. So no paypal buttons, but you can always buy me a beer if you're ever in Amsterdam!
