There are Lions in the Water - Cyanea Capillata - the Lionsmane Jellyfish. These fearsome predators ride the cold, green ocean currents of the Pacific Northwest. Beneath their relentlessly undulating bell they trail a forest of tentacles each armed with a legion of stinging nematocysts by which they inject, poison and paralyze their prey. I admit to a compelling fascination with these lethal ambassadors of a stinging death. They are possessed with an alien beauty and move with a rhythmic, near-hypnotic grace. Though they seem indifferent to me and all around them, I - through the lens of my camera - am drawn to them.
