Hand Feeding Sharks
If you have ever wanted to hand feed sharks the Kimberley is the place to go. On most cruises a friendly Shark known as the Tawny Nurse Shark will swim behind a mored boat and can be hand fed and touched without the fear of losing ones hand or fingers.
I have been told they do have teeth and can bite but they are very placid. You can even swim with them if your crazy enough as crocodiles are never too far away. Also if the shark looks grey and not brown like these gentle giants don't put your hand in the water because it's probably a bitey one.

I don't think I would be putting my hands in the water whatever colour they were. Unless my 5D2 had gone over the side....and then it might still depend on what Canon does with the firmware ;)
Thanks for watching Andrew.
In saying all that, I still think its a great camera, considering the price, after all it only cost about a 3rd of just the lens on our 502. It has an almost film look that is hard to achieve with video. Id consider using it on a short film.

Heres the test footage we did in Africa

On a personal note the footage made me feel sad for these people although I don't know if they are contented or not. I just feel for them when we are so privileged and they seem so vulnerable.
I am working with the issues but cant give away the camera as it still gives stunning results. Bloody Canon why cant they give us the perfect weapon.
Mike
But there definitely is 2 sides to these people. As a westerner it's perplexing. You know while these people may be extremely poor (by western standards) , and deal with death every single day, generally they are the happiest, friendliest people Ive ever meet. I see more sad faces driving to work every day around Perth.
As for the great canvas..yes it was, but there are great canvases all around us, we just have to step back sometimes and look a little harder.
I could go on and on...
Anyway, hope you guys are busy.

Doing it real tuff!!!! don't let my wife hear me saying that:)
But Andrew, you bring up a very interesting point, and one that I was very aware of when we did this. It was one of the biggest reasons we took the camera.
Some of the shots we did with both camera's so i think they were somewhat intimidated by the crew anyway. Certainly the 502 as a full size ENG camera drew the most attention, which actually was the biggest problem we had - Constantly being followed by an entourage of spectators. But I would say the subjects didnt seem to behave any differently when filmed. I did though spend some time away from the main group, just myself and the 5D. Kind of hard to judge with the portraits because any camera in that environment is somewhat intimidating I guess. It was more a case of the longer we spend there the more comfortable they became. But in saying that, I did find that being by myself with a somewhat small camera and splitting off from the main group was perfect in that situation and for those shots.
Are we going to get to see film from Varanus Island Michael? I have to admit I had to look that one up. I was expecting another tropical idyll. What Google found for me suggested this was going to be a bit different.
Cheers Mike
I having fun with my 5D as well. the image is spectacular.. I did upgrade to a sandisk extreme 60 M/sec CF card and that definitely helped with the 'in camera' recording issues I was having with my slow Kingston 133x 25 M/sec card..
I have contacted Canon regarding firmware upgrades to enhance the video features on the camera.. the response from customer support was "there are no current plans to upgrade the 5D mark 2".. and continued on with their solution was to "buy a video camera."
hmm.. a bit on the rude side considering how much the camera/lenses cost. but probably a very true answer..
Hopefully FCP comes up with a solution for supporting the H.264 files from the 5Dmk2.
I have heard a rumor something big is coming out from Canon for us video guys. Stay tuned.
Mike
Canon just announced a firmware upgrade to the 5Dmk2 early next year that will allow 24/25p!!
Wooo Hooo!!!
specs on the 1Dmk4:
16.1 megapixel APS-H CMOS Sensor
Dual DiG!C 4 Image Processors
14-bit A/D colour conversion
ISO 100-12800 (L:50, H1: 25600, H2: 51200,H3: 102400)
CF+SDHC
$5000 and delivery by 'end December'?
EU 4600 euro - no UK price yet..
I'm still really liking my full frame 5Dmk2 .. until Canon comes out with a video camera with this technology! :)
