Can a love story be told as a thriller? Megan & Narbeh's true romance seemed to inspire the myth, conventions, and iconography of the great international suspense films, set in the iconic Uppsala winter of their hometown. Knowing only that Narbeh was a member of the Swedish Air Force, and that he used to sneak off the base at times just to see Megan, we took a little dramatic license in this one-of-a-kind love story-thriller hybrid, and hope to have celebrated the places that remind these two what made their very first moments together unforgettable.

I couldn't believe it. You did it. You found a market to create these amazing story base on facts given by a couple true life story. Love the way you make significance to the little details provided to you. Brilliant. You make these dreams into reality. You found a balance for price and demand for such works is just amazing. Congrats.
  • PACIFIC PICTURES plus 3 months ago
Thanks, Danial. It's really something special and unique to find a couple willing to put in the time and effort to have a film like this produced. We definitely don't take that for granted. Thanks again.

Kevin, we just screened this in our boardroom with the entire Cinevate team. There was a moment of silence at the conclusion as everyone thought a bit about what we had just watched. You were right...this did make my day. It's one thing to watch cool adapter footage, but quite another to forget about it entirely and get drawn in to the story. There's no question that you are shaking up the genre and more importantly, raising the bar for all of the "little" guys out there. The comment by Zion about the cost of this production is a testament to how one guy with creativity, an incredible work ethic, and persistence can do something this amazing on what is actually a very small budget. That's what we're all about. We couldn't ask for anything more in terms of validating our vision.

    Cheers,
    Dennis Wood

Thanks, Dennis. The high production value is an important point given the limited resources, and the Brevis really shines here. It's amazing how many people have approached me asking what we shot this on and being surprised at the response. The XHA1 + Brevis pairing (with Canon FDs of all lenses) is quite possibly one of the lowest cost options for filmmakers looking to acquire w/ DoF in 24P. It's also a testament to the power of story and performance and how everything comes together in the viewership experience. Thank you for the kind words and for making tools like the Brevis available to independent filmmakers like us.

Your aerial shots reminded me of something out of the Bourne Trilogy, well done!
  • PACIFIC PICTURES plus 3 months ago
Thanks, Nicholas. Paul Greengrass is an interesting case study for me; his approach relates so well to these concepts: a documentary filmmaker who now shoots features with a deliberate verite style. Interesting...

I'd say "nice work", but you've already heard that a million times. What I'm really interested in is how you find the clientele that are willing to pay for this. The last time I checked, it was about $20,000 dollars to rent a chopper, pilot, operator and Cineflex system. All for a wedding video... I'm floored!
  • PACIFIC PICTURES plus 3 months ago
As far as finding clientele, they are obviously quite special. At this level you're turning away a lot more business than you can accept, for various reasons, budgets are the main factor. They are out there and if you want to attract someone willing to pay $xx,000.00 for a concept, you've got to have a concept on your reel that looks like $xx,000.00, or more. Your first will probably be an investment toward your reel, but a wise one if you're a resourceful producer. See below for the answer to your other question & thanks for the comment. Definitely an important question.

I'm sure Kevin knows Swedish people in "high" places... I bet he got all the coverage for $1,500!
  • PACIFIC PICTURES plus 3 months ago
Well, Jason & Beth... You're both right. Not that I know somone, per se, we just lucked out with the timing on our aerials; the crew was hired to shoot a commercial and tacked my shots on the end of that shoot. That was a good guess, Beth.

Awesome. Something I aspire to be able to do some day. And this was played at a reception? This blows most Hollywood films out there away! Two questions...do you have any footage of the reaction of the wedding guests, would love to have seen that. And, what was the name of the song at the end? It was beautiful. Keep up the good work, hope to see more stuff from you in the future! :)
  • PACIFIC PICTURES plus 3 months ago
Hi Bryan - yes, this was played at the reception and we did get reactions of the guests and couple. The couple's reaction you should see posted in our videos before this clip.

I'm sure this is the most beautifull short I have ever seen. Thank you! Beautifull story and filmmaking...at the end I wished it wouldn't end at all. The music at the end was so deep and intense. It fits this stunning feature perfectly. Can I ask from who the music was?

Thanks Vasilis. We hope to have made a film that truly celebrates Uppsala. The film serves as much as a "goodbye" letter to the couples' hometown (since they now reside in the US) as it does their relationship.

Ambitious project but it's sad to see Swedish acting shine through. It's like usual, over acting and the lines doesn't feel real. I kinda lost interest then.

But the aerial shots are really nice and makes this one exclusive.
  • PACIFIC PICTURES plus 3 months ago
Thanks for commenting, editman. I have to disagree with you. I'm usually a harsh critic of my own work but I have to say I felt the performances were really strong here for the most part, all around. Megan & Narbeh being totally untrained not withstanding. That fact is just a bonus. I totally respect your opinion nonetheless & thank you for watching.

    -Kevin

Yes, it's a matter of opinion. I guess I'm used to bad acting in most Swedish films and might be to picky...
