Paul Marinaro, a Chicago based jazz singer, will celebrate his new CD, "Without a Song: For My Father" at the Jazz Showcase in Chicago, IL on June 12, 2013. These two edited tracks showcase Paul's ability to tell a story with his singing - whether it be a swingin' number like "Devil May Care" - or the lovely ballad "Everything Must Change". While both songs are on the forthcoming CD, these versions were recorded live in performance and in the studio.
For this album, Paul wanted to honor his father’s unfulfilled dream to be a singer. In the process, Paul salvaged and digitally restored his father’s old homemade, 78rpm acetate discs (some nearly 65 years old) and various audio cassettes. Parts of those recordings have found their way onto Paul’s album, along with the creation of one powerful duet of father and son, "You Will Be My Music", bridging two generations, two audio technologies, and two distinct singing styles.
Paul's career and his musical journey to honor his father is the subject of a forthcoming documentary, "You Will Be My Music". Previews of both film and the CD can be found at youwillbemymusic.com and withoutasong.com
