In January 2013 four of us spent 7 days packrafting the Franklin River - one of Tasmania's and indeed Australia's most iconic river journeys. Although the river was low at a little below 0.8m at the Collingwood Bridge we were blessed with beautiful warm weather and it was really an ideal level for packrafting. 110km and hundreds of rapids later we arrived at Sir John Falls. We then flew out with TAA directly back to Hobart discovering that whilst we were away much of the state had been badly affected by severe bushfires.
