In 2007, both scientists and fishermen observed a dramatic decrease in the fall salmon run, when salmon swim through the Golden Gate to the San Francisco Bay tributaries to spawn. There are numerous theories about why there is a decline in the numbers of salmon, including higher ocean surface temperatures and a decline in krill, the main food source for salmon. One thing is certain: the decline in San Francisco Bay salmon had a big impact on local fishermen.
