A brief, first person account of a water tour through the roadside attraction known as Ovum Ranch. This abandoned waterway flows directly to the Pacific Ocean, but not before providing habitat for ancient animal life previously thought extinct.

Created for the Zooroom "A Room with a Zoo" group gallery exhibition in Toronto benefitting the World Wildlife Fund.

All content and audio created by Kelly Meador & Daniel Elwing.

Wow, stunning. The transitions were like nothing i've seen before. Really really beautiful. There's something about a fixed camera on a canoe. The angled bow directs the eye where to focus. I love it.

To me, the motion graphics seemed a little out of place in such an otherwise natural setting though.

That was absolutely amazing. Was the canoe/kayak an edit or was the camera just fixed to it?
  • impactist 5 months ago
The canoe is real and part of the shot as you can tell by how it interacts with the things around it.

Oh, thats right. It looks really good.

  • damn. thats all i can say.. i really want to absorb the knowlede you possess in post modulation methods of film making... this video is crazy. are you shooting 35mm? or using a 35mm adapter on digital? just curioius. if you dont want to give your secrets away i would totally understand...

the fact that this stuff is in benefit of the environment makes it 1000 times stronger. Kelly Meador & Daniel Elwing killed it in this one as well.. this stuff blows my mind...

    never stop creating this stuff...

Photography was captured on location using 24p video with further post processing including motion tracking and cg elements.

As you noted, this was created specifically for an event sponsoring the wwf, but glad you enjoyed it as well.

Really like the color tones and transitioning - for me the composited CG is at it's best when it's simple - for example the eggs just bobbing in the water on their own. Overall A definite thumbs up!

    Cheers,

enchanting and alluring, really sucks one in. love the canoe, seems to have a mind of its own as a beast, rather than the mind of a person paddler. great creep, the stillness of water's surface with no ripples, keeps suspense high with what canoe is intending...

    Glad you liked it.

The type of camera really isn't important. The location, the time of day/year... the elements shot in studio.. Like all things, it's really a sum of it's parts. And, it's never about the tools.
