Hillsborough County Traffic Engineering says that since bicycles are vehicles no special accommodations are needed for bicycles. Watch this video and see if you agree. I would say that they just don't get it, this shows how dangerous traffic intersections are for bicyclists.
As I approach an intersection the light is red, there is a minivan sitting at the light. The light turns green and the vehicle moves as I start accelerating right behind him. Before I've reached halfway across the intersection it has already turned yellow and the opposing traffic has the green by the halfway point. Again, because of signals that don't consider the needs of cyclists we are treated poorly and motorists may believe that we illegally jump the lights... WRONG! THIS IS SO FRUSTRATING, THE COUNTY SHOWS TOTAL DISREGARD FOR BICYCLISTS SAFETY.
