2. The Pannzian Masterplan
The Pannzian Masterplan! Trip to Pagudpud with friends!

My 2nd video and I'm really liking videography so far. Still using iMovie and will try out a demo of Final Cut someday. The trip was fantastic and it was great to get out of the city. Great company of course and lots of adventuring done.

I used my Pentax K-7 and it once again delivered in aces. I love its small size and the features it's packed with.

Music by Hot Hot Heat and The Coral. Great bands!

Wow! I'm also a pentax user, but I think I'm switching. This video made me think again to upgrade to the K7. How are you liking it so far? Image quality wise? And do you shoot a lot in low light?

    Thanks.
  •
  • I docrjay. I've got to tell you that I'm really happy with the K-7 but only you will be able to tell how happy you are with it.

Image quality wise - I love the detail I get when partnered with the Limited lenses. I prefer it much more than my Canon and L-lenses. Although my canon is a great system to work with as well.

Low light wise, I think it's a tie. When you've got a lot of movement the Canon locks in a bit quicker. The K-7 locks in great with its green AF assist lamp.

I'd let your personal experience decide on your brand, I'm no zealot and I'd prefer to see your work than the brand of your gear :)

The Canon 7D and D300s look fantastic, but one big thing I'm very happy with the K-7 is the size and build. The other cameras feel huge compared to it.

Very nice!!! I am very impressed by your work and the K7 as well. I am looking into buying a K7 or D300s or a 7D. I haven't seen many great videos with the D300s, a lot of jello effect in moving shots and all my lenses are Nikon! So far, the D300s is last on my list.
On the other hand, you have a lot of moving shots and they just flow. Have you used any stabilization software on the shots? What lenses did you use?

Anyhow, congratulations, nice video, nice feel and a great group!
  •
  • Thank you!!

The 7D and D300s seem to have a lot more control over video I believe and they get full 1080p video while the K-7 "only" has 720p.

And about stabilization, all my lenses are stabilized with the Pentax K-7, as the stabilization is built onto the sensor :D I love how it works on video and as for photo, it's just awesome shooting sharp photos as slow as 1/10!

I also haven't really been able to really see any jello efect so far :P

Hope that helps! Let me know if you've got any questions I may be able to help you with!

    Thanks Diego!

    BTW, Nikon D300s is 720p.

Did you have stabilization activated on all the shots?

Also what lenses have you used on that shoot?

I didn't notice any jello effect on your shots, nice flow!!!

  • I used my trusty FA50/1.4 and my DA21mm Limited for these shots. I'm saving up for a DA55/1.4 that's weather sealed and sharper too!

And yes I did use the stabilization all the time on my videos!

    Thanks Diego.
I've had Pentax cameras for over 30 years.
It's hard not to feel the gravitational pull of Canon though. Yours is one of the best videos I've seen.
It's making it much easier to make the purchase :-)
  • Thank you Bill! :)

Actually the K-7 does have a 1536 x 1024 video mode which makes a pretty good 1080 mode if you don't mind a little letterboxing on the sides of the TV. I've shot a K-7 and d5000 within days of each other and the K-7 definitely has better detail and color. And yup, I wish we also had some ISO or shutter speed control in video, if you want to avoid a high ISO then set your aperture pretty wide open, get near a good light source and then lock the exposure down with AE. I believe it stays locked even if you turn the record button on and off again

You have some incredible talent. I was one of those who couldn't imagine why anyone would want video on a camera, but your videos have completely sold me on the concept. Your videos are technically terrific and really impart a nice feeling of being there. They show the intimacy of you and your friends and you experiences. Really, really great work. I'm jealous! I want to go hang with you guys! :)
  • Thank you so much for the kind words! :)

Diego, your video was fantastic. You have really captured a story and the heart of your friends in a very artful way. You've sold me on the K7. I was thinking about a Canon 7D but I already have a lot of investment in Pentax lenses with my existing K100D. I look forward to seeing more of your work in the future.
  • Thank you Brian! I love the K7, it's just a joy to use. The 7D looks fantastic as well, but I'll sorely miss the compact size and photo handling and of course the Pentax lenses I have. If you want hardcore video stuff, the 7D would be a better choice I believe :)

    Great videos!
    is this all handheld?
looks amazing if it is. Seems like SR really does a fantastic job on video. Im thinking of saving up for either a k-7 or k-x.
Wish the 7D had in body stabilization - but then thats crazy talk
  • Thanks for the kind words! Yup it's all handheld :) I'm very happy with the SR performance! The K-x looks great so far (great looking ISO!) and if you pair it with some nice manual lenses you can control the aperture :)

It's not the camera. It's the videomaker. Grade A+

Awesome work! It really made me stop thinking about technical part of the game (which is superb) and I just enjoyed the mood...keep going!
  • Thank you Jakub! :)
