This was our dove opener morning from about 4:45am to 7:15am , with a star timelapse over Salvation mountain. We made friends with a cat that night that you can see us petting.

I know it looks like I was crazy but these bolts were really really really far away lol.

Thanks. That's how we roll in America lol. No I was on a dove hunting trip with very little on the hunting part, more picture snapping.

nice! what were your camera settings when you shot per photo?
  • Lucasberg (Joey) plus 3 months ago
It started out at F4,iso 400, at 10 sec exposure, 1 sec intervals but as the day light came out at the end it was around F16,iso 100, 2 sec exposure with 1sec interval. I had to keep changing it as it got brighter.
  • Michael Raiden 2 months ago
This was incredible. What do you mean by 10 sec 1 sec intervals? Is it a one second exposure every ten seconds?
  • Lucasberg (Joey) plus 2 months ago
I just updated the stats. I meant 10 sec exposure with 1 sec interval.

    Thanks Michael

that's crazy, were you all trying to get struck by lightening holding your rifles like that?

    nice footage!!!
  • Lucasberg (Joey) plus 3 months ago
It was crazy. About every other year there are good lightning storms out there when we are there but this was the best one yet.

After putting the cam away for 5 minutes for rain I couldn't help myself to get the scale on the 2nd part with myself.

At first I thought people in the image was ruining the affect. But then it reminded me of the image of man marvelling over a God. Just a thought

Really amazing thunders. Well done. Of course, the "macho men" playing soldiers should be better get out of the film. But i liked the contrast with the last part "Peace...Jesus....". A bit crazy, isn't it?
  • Lucasberg (Joey) plus 3 months ago
It was pretty amazing and I couldn't help getting in there.
That place is called Salvation mountain and we go visit it every year to see what Leonard has added.

Very nice. For anyone who wondered, the music is "Conscience," by Antonio Pinto, from the film "Lord of War."

  • Lucasberg (Joey) plus 3 months ago
Thanks Jay boy. I had to put it way for about 5 minutes because I thought it was going to rain, but then reset it up because it was just too impressive not to.

Just for future reference. Lightning can travel 10 miles through clear air. People have been struck who didn't even know there was a storm near by. Keep that in mind the next time you decide to stand out in the open with a long piece of metal over your shoulder. :-)
  • Lucasberg (Joey) plus 2 months ago
Thanks Steve. I'm sure you are right. This was our 20th year and at least every other year there is a huge lightning storm like this. I was under the false sense of security of knowing it was striking a few miles away.

Woah! That rocks. So was that all shot with a stills camera, then? Do you program it to automatically take those 10s exposures 1s apart? Oh and, Dove Hunting? really? didn't know they were a game bird. seem small. sea gull, now thats a bird.
  • Lucasberg (Joey) plus 2 months ago
Thanks Christopher. It was shot on a 5D markii with a timer remote and out together in Vegas 8. Doves are small but tasty. We stuff the breast with peppers and wrap them with bacon.

Lucasberg, excellent time lapse!! You guys did great setting up your camera during that storm! Though it didn't totally blend in with the theme, I thought your standing in the frame watching the show kind of added to the drama & grandeur. One detail I would've changed are the sporadic frame stops--kind of interfered with the graceful fluidity of the video. Otherwise, Very nice!
  • Lucasberg (Joey) plus 2 months ago
Thanks Jon. I had a hard time because the exposere was changing from pitch black to daylight.

This was shot with pictures on the 5D2. The Sanyo is pretty affordable (about $400) but not superduper quality.
