Good Stuff! Which lens did you use for the shots?
  • Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6
    Sigma 30mm f1.4
    Super-Takumar 50mm f1.4 (old manual lens)

Nice... I love the final look in all of the shots. Will you be posting the film here???
  • Yes probably... when the director is done with the voice over!

Very well done! You have talent. Color grading in EF or Vegas?
  • Thank you! Grading was done in After Effects.

Some great colour grading. The only fault I found was that some of the parts were a little soft on focus.
  • Thanks! Yes you're right, many shots are soft. I need a follow focus!

Which filter did you use to mask out skintones?
  • Not sure I understand, but I played with the red channel a lot and some desaturation.

GREAT color. Cold when necessary. Warm when necessary. Very good.
  • Thanks Gecco! Glad you spotted my use of cool/warm colors.

It's the best footage of 500d so far.
I also have a 500d and have some problems with it.
Apart not having manual mode, the 720p mode shows very horizontal artifacts/ aliasing, and the 1080p only at 20fps sucks. What mode do you use in this video? did you use any correction for the aliasing artifacts? I also work with after effects in my every day job, normally i use magic bullet for grading, and i must say you did a brilliant job with after effects only!
    Keep going with good work!
  • Hey Nuno thanks for your comment. I used the 720p mode. I did not correct anything regarding the aliasing artifacts. I saw Magic Bullet in action, it seems to be good, but I still prefer my recipe using the basic tools :)

this is great, were you playing around with the color correction tools within after effects or have you installed a lot of plug ins as well???
  • No plug ins!

Very nice, well done. The grading was amazing.

What frame rate did you shoot this film at?
  • Thanks! I shot this at 30fps in 720p. I converted it into 24p using twixtor. There was some good and really bad results.

How did you do the 1:35 shot, where you fix the lighting?
  • Roughly : It's a bunch of rotoscoped curves adjustment layers mixed with solid colors in different blending modes. I think I also used the red channel as a matte for color tweaking.

is it possible color grading with final cut pro or any product from Mac?
  • It is possible to do some basic (and good) stuff in FCP. On most of the machines, it will ask you for a render though. I read about Color and it seems cool too. But IMO After Effects is the coolest :)

I admire your work Charles, it's awesome how you don't use a plugin or standalone app and get these crazy beautiful images, you must have developed quite a technique your way.

    Keep up the good work.
  • Pietro, thanks for your nice comment. I appreciate it. Colors are colors :)
