Nobody experiences anything closer to “the end of the world” than a mother who loses a child. Indeed, Cindy Sheehan’s life seemed to collapse this morning of 2004 when she got word that her son Casey had just been killed-in-action in Iraq. After three weeks of grief and despair though, Cindy decided to get up, stand up and confront the ominous power system that had sold the world a highly lucrative war based on hearsay and lies about Saddam Hussein’s “weapons of mass destruction”. Cindy-the-grieving-mother turned her despair into action and said “NO!” to the ultimate disrespect of all: the deliberate killing of countless human beings for the sake of profit-making. Instantly she became an icon around the world and to this day Cindy continues standing up for what she sees as right, sensible and respectful, no matter the odds, no matter the difficulty.
