Holland is a place of equal chances. Thats what we like to believe. But what if chances are, by fate and limitations, somehow a daily struggle? ''I don't know why it all happened to me. That opportunities are equal for everyone, is something I guess I have to adopt.''
This is a portrait I made of Erik Loen. He is a ex heroin addict, Moluccan immigrant and cat lover. He was homeless for 5 years but now works at a sheltered workshop and is on a methadone program.
For the turnaround in his life, he has his own special story. You can choose to believe it or not, but with this short film I hope to inspire people with Erik's perseverance.
This is my first longer story. It was aired on april 7th 2013 at the regional broadcast station Omroep West in The Hague, Holland. Camera credits go to Tommy Karlas.
Enjoy, and don't hesitate to give feedback (also at the translations in my poor English).
