An increasing number of dogs are falling into the overweight and obese categories, paralleling the rise in obesity over the past few decades in people. This suggests that dogs, which interact closely with people, have been influenced by our sedentary lifestyles, over-sized portions and diets high in calories. Two ways to combat the rise in obesity among dogs would be to make a way for people to track the amount of food their dogs eats, as well as promote the need for routine exercise. A "K-9 edition weight watchers-like" program, that focuses on both diet and exercise has been developed which can be implemented at veterinary hospitals and clinics.
