how much did you pay for the DOF adapter total?

Very nice, what were your settings on the hfs100. You lower your gain quite a bit?
  • TomStro plus 2 years ago
Hey, Richard.. it was shot basically in just Cinemode with no other real different settings. I used a Letus Mini adapter for everything, except the black "transportation" scenes. And from what I recall, I didn't mess too much with the exposure. Most of the post-prod work was heavily focused on those scenes in particular with color correction, curves, crushing the blacks, etc.

    And thanks for fav'ing!

nice job! what lens did you have on the letus?
  • TomStro plus 2 years ago
    Thanks! I primarily used a Nikon 50mm f/1.4

    Nice work!

I looked up the Letus Mini adapter, and on the product info page it said it shouldn't be used with camcorders that have a filter size above 43mm. The HF S10/S100 has a filter size of 58mm. Did you use an adapter for the adapter so that it would fit?
  • TomStro plus 1 year ago
Hey, Jeremy.. sorry it's taking me so long to reply. Vimeo never notified me of your comment!

On the Letus Direct page when ordering a Mini there is a drop-down accessory list; they have made a ring specifically to fit the HFS100 for the Letus Mini. Hope this helps.

Thanks, that helps me a bunch! I can't wait to get this camera. :)

Also, how did you get such a clear picture in the dark room? Did you do a lot of color correction for that? It looked really, really cool.

    One more question...

Since you used the Nikon 50mm, did you order the Mini with the lens mount "Nikon AI", or did you leave it at "None"?
  • TomStro plus 1 year ago
What's impressive about the HFS100 is how well it can fairly perform in low-light conditions -- even though there will be some obvious noise. I bumped up the in-camera gain a bit, but not too much. And yeah, a bulk of the post-production was using curves in After Effects for the dark room, really crushing out the noise in the blacks.

Also used a Nikon AI mount for the Nikon lens. It's built specifically for that brand.

Hi, I've just bought the letus mini for my hfs10 and this video (which I've watched about 10 times) really swayed me to make the investment. You've really done an amazing job of making this look like film, but not just that it's superbly directed, shot and edited. You must be very proud of it :) Can I just ask about the Letus as mine hasn't arrived yet - did you find you needed the rod support system?
  • TomStro plus 1 year ago
Thanks, Bill! Really, really appreciate it!

No, no need for the rod support system. You'll be surprised by how light the HFS10 + Letus adapter combination will really be. There is hardly any stress from the adapter weighing on the threads of the HFS10.

I hope you have fun with the adapter, and I'll be sure to check out any vids you post.

Hi Tom thanks for the reply. So when you were using a tripod, the letus and lens were both just hanging over the front and you didn't have any issues? I'm really glad if that's the case because the rod system's pretty expensive.
  • TomStro plus 1 year ago
Yep, just like that with no problems.
