Very nice. I'm looking forward to downloading it and watching it on my large TV.

very nice! Some of the surf shots look like lenses longer than 28 or 50 mm, though.
  • Joe Shaw plus 3 months ago
Joe - some of the shots are with the stock lens which is longer. Also there is a crop factor with the micro four thirds system - meaning a 50mm lens will have the appearance of a 100mm lens in 35mm terms.

    1/2hr of shooting or 1/2hr of slow-mo?
  • Joe Shaw plus 3 months ago
1/2 hour of shooting. The slo-mo is achieved in post.

Mmmmm mmmm goood. The song added so much to the gorgeous imagery. I would have liked to have heard the faint sounds of the ocean fading in and out, but still, absolutely beautiful imagery.

Thank you. Yes - I had actually planned to do just that - but ran out of time! I might add a newer version later though.

Outstanding work Joe! Fantastic images and editing. Did you use standard settings in MBL or customised ones
  • Joe Shaw plus 2 months ago
Cheers John. The grade is done using the tools in MBL rather than any of the presets.

Joe, you're footage is available for download in WMV. I exported and uploaded this video I shot in WMV as well: vimeo.com/7301614 yet it seems to play a little choppy when I pan from side to side. Any tips for export settings? In that footage I shot, do you think I am rendering my slow mo incorrectly? any help from you would be MUCH appreciated, as I have a ton of respect for your work!

Not sure how to help you with tat Andrew - have you got it sorted now? Are you shooting 720/ 60 or 50? Is it a pulldown issue?
  • Andrew Garcia 1 month ago
Well I am shooting 720/60...and the footage plays fairly smoothly when I render it, but when I upload to Vimeo it seems to play pretty choppy. From what I understand, pulldown is only an issue with the native 24p. I have read a few different discussion boards and I think I might be getting a grasp on it. One suggestion was that I had my shutter speed way higher than 1/125 (I did this to darken the bright light since I don't have any ND's yet) thanks for your reply!

    hello Joe
I live in the uk and am about to buy a Gh1... I'm pretty new to film making, and will use mainly with animation. I was wondering if you use a Pal or Ntsc gh1...?, your slow motion looks great, is it at the 50p setting? I'm not sure whether to get a cheaper ntsc one from the states or not. Any tips most appreciated, no worries though. Thanks for uploading your things, very interesting.
    bye
    Daniel
  • Joe Shaw plus 1 month ago
Daniel, I'm using the PAL GH1 and yes - the slo-mo was done using 720/50. I think you might find using an NTSC camera in the UK a bit of a pain. I'd stick to PAL if I were you.

Ok cool. Many thanks, it's so easy to be seduced by all the factoids and inane chit chat on all these forums you end up not seeing the obvious answers...
best of luck with your next projects
