Canon Philippines lent us a pre-production model of the 7d. We got it Tuesday 6pm and had to return it the following Thursday at noon.
We wanted to document something truly Filipino and came up with the idea of shooting a "Perya". There really is no direct equivalent in English. It's not as grand as a carnival, not as permanent and posh as an amusement park, there are no pumpkins nor cows in competition like a country fair. It is what it is - a Perya.
Shot in 1920 x 1080 at 24p. Transcoded to XDcam codec. Edited in Premiere Pro CS3.
No color grading was utilized.
No additional lights used.
Lenses:
16-35 mm 2.8
17 mm TS
35mm 1.4
50 mm 1.4
85mm 1.4
100 mm 2.8 macro
70-200 mm 2.8

I love it, one SMALL backpack that contains :
5DMark II
5 Lenses
Zoom H4n and accessories
Gorilla pod
Lee Filter holder and 6 4X4 filters +
a bunch of other misc stuffs.. So good.
Gorgeous piece, especially without color grading, was this a choice or time issue ?
Also, what did you use for sound ? I use the ZoomH4n and love it..
Much love and Aloha, iamKP-
Once again.., very nice..
but I can tell, it's not the same as 5D
:)
Std unsqueezed 35mm cine is 22x16mm and the 7D is 22.3x14.9 mm. Pretty close.
Now, when Canon ships EF-mount anamorphic lenses.... :)
Lots of great shots in this "Perya" -- I liked the t/s lens on the chasing light bulbs, and the girls huddling to hide from the scary ride especially
Was this all with the kit lens?
Cheers & top shooting!
let me get back to you on the wide. one was a 17mm TS though.
Which version of the Glidetrack did you use?
Great stuff though I still haven't seen any great daytime images from the 7D.
Could it be possible that we have the first ever camera that works better at night then it does day........ curious
G
Great job!
BTW I pre-ordered my 7d last week :)
Maybe Panasonic should lend u a GH1 to see what you can do with it :) The camera is just a tool, the most important is the driver :) Maraming Salamat Jason
Did you need to use iso 1600 or 3200 during the shoot? If so, which clips?
Well done!
smoother movements,
colours are also different between 24 and 30.
just search around for a comparisons video, you'll see by yourself
here's a quick example vimeo.com/4112787
Also, the link shows a conversion to 24p, not original 24p footage. I think I might post some 30p vs 24p 7d footage just to show it more clearly.
I'm not arguing that one is better than the other, just making the difference clearer.
I love your crane shots!
I am waiting for this baby to arrive in Malaysia!
How many strap did you use while going on the roller coaster ride? hehehe
Question, did you just use the onboard mic for this? Also, any particular PictureStyle used?
I've got a couple of questions for you:
1) How did you record sound? In camera or did you use any extra hardware? If so how did you synced it with the video?
2) Did you use any external monitor while shooting or just the built in LCD? If not, how did you manage to frame the crane shots?
Thanks in advance for the info
on board mics for everything else. =)
2. no external monitors. they're quite expensive.
Ian and Bob were the crane operators. they do a couple of test shots for motion and exposure. then go on to record the successive ones.
on board mics for everything else. =)
I want to believe this could have been achieved with the 5D Mark 2, as I have one. Do you think the 24p mattered that much?
Also, what external mics did you use? I know you must have used some. I see one being held in one shot, actually. Thanks in advance.
For some people, 24p, whether on a videocam or in this case, a dslr is a dealbreaker.
Really not so much for me.
BUT - we did a side by side of the same shot with a 5d in 30p and the 7d on 24p and we found the latter (not surprsingly) more filmic and suited to our purposes.
I know you can convert 5d footage to 24p but I guess the 7d will save you that extra step.
Cheers!
Congratulations! Now I understand why you were so animated (as I was) in discussing your brief hands on experience with the 7D. Mabuhay!!!
Paging Canon Philippines, paging Mr. A.... JayR, Marge, I want one!!! :-)
I'll see you soon Sir Emy.
Jason - can you tell me where you got the music?
You really did a great job with the 7D!
Wonderful job Jason. You bringing that Kessler to Re:Frame?!
i miss my nativeland! perya saya!
This has turned into a super effective form of advertising: Just hand your stuff to Laforet/Bloom/etc. and it markets itself...
