How I Broke The Screen on My Camera This Afternoon
8 months ago
I had this totally amazing idea, and, in the end, it broke my camera.
A dichotomy of what's going on:
a) my camera dangles from the right pedal of my bike.
b) I start moving through the parking lot behind my building in third gear. My pace quickens. It looks crazy awesome.
c) I think, "Wouldn't it look cooler if it went up and down EVEN FASTER?" so I switch to second gear, but I'm going too fast to pedal in second. I start gliding.
d) while I glide, the gorilla tape loosens on my camera. It falls and drags on the asphalt for a couple seconds (that's where the tape skips).
e) it sits on the ground, acting all pathetic. I inspect it for damage, and realize the screen is all purple and green and blue and covered with lines. "Oh, fuck," I say, "fuck."
But it's cool; The camera itself is still fine, and I always have the little black and white viewfinder. Maybe this will teach me to focus on contrast more than color.

bobsnead 7 months agoyou should get and hack a cvs disposable camcorder, which is super easy and will cost you about 40 bucks for the camera and wire. Then you can do such experiments and not feel bad if they go astray. -
Benjamin Korman 7 months agoAre you saying that I can keep the body of the camera in my backpack and pull the lens out as far as I want, because that would be awesome. Does disposable mean it only records once? Because that sounds like a terrible invention. -
bobsnead 7 months agoNo, I'm saying you could use the cvs cam just as you did here, and if you had the same results or worse you wouldn't feel bad because the camera itself only costs 25 bucks. yes, they are designed to be disposable which is stupid. So you're *suppose* to bring it into cvs when you're finished with it to get a dvd of the footage on the cam, but there's a whole community online that have designed program hacks and usb cords to make them reusable. search on ebay for "cvs camcorder". -
