Science is nothing to be ashamed of.
The blue channel in the photo has less information than red or green, and the photo's imbalance of the channels throws off the example. I tried this with pure red/green/blue circles, which was more conclusive.

I haven't yet read this book, but I guess it can provide some good advice...
