UPDATED: The Aerial footage in the film is now stabilized and slightly color corrected to give you a better idea of what the final product will look like. I originally included non stabilized footage for educational purposes but due to a backlash we updated the film. It's remarkable how easily the Global Shutter allows footage to be stabilized.
While creating a short film about female rugby players, Perspective Aerials (perspectiveaerials.com) became the first team to fly a Sony F55 on a drone rig. The Sony F55 is a very polarizing camera. On paper it’s everything we’ve been hoping for in a camera. Between high frame rate onboard 4K recording, a global shutter and compact modular design, the F55 felt like the answer to getting true cinematic results out of the drone rig.
We shot 4K/60p XVAC onto 128GB SxS Pro+ cards. Using Sony Content Browser 2.0 I was able to import into FCP X and transcode to Prores HQ. Aerial footage is not stabilized or color corrected.
To learn more about flying the F55 check out my post on the WONDERBLOG (andrewwonder.com/blog/entry/f55-vs-female-rugby-awesome). You can download the original 4K Prores Transcodes here (we.tl/F0XZt8DVer).
The video was shot by Dave "Cobra" Ellis and edited by Justin Sharp
