Pendle Hill, the Quaker retreat and study center near Philadelphia has many facets. This film does not try to give a comprehensive view, but rather a "sense" of what it is like to visit and participate in the community's life.
Pendle Hill was established in 1930 as a Quaker study center designed to prepare adult students for service in the Religious Society of Friends and in the world at large. The founders envisioned "a vital center of spiritual culture" and "a place for training leaders."
Pendle Hill's mission is both educational and religious: it is rooted in Quaker community life, with learning based on experimental, experiential and intellectual pursuits.
