Immigrant Health Initiative Seminar Series
February 27, 2013
University of Southern California
Dr. Silvia Barcellos is an associate economist for RAND Corporation and professor of economics at Pardee RAND Graduate School. Mexican immigrants new to the United States generally report better health than native-born Americans, and over time, this advantage erodes. But is this apparent decline in health actually a result of undiagnosed diseases in Mexico being discovered in the U.S? Using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, Dr. Barcellos presented her surprising findings regarding this paradox.
This event was co-hosted by USC Immigrant Health Initiative (iHi), iHi Student Interest Group; Schaeffer Center for Health Policy and Economics; and Minority Aging Health Economics Research Center.
