This video was made on the occasion of the exhibition, Here On The Way There, at Comfort Station, May 4-26 2013. Comfort Station is a small historic building in the heart of Logan Square in Chicago. Quite literally, the building is located in the center of a traffic rotary. Originally built as a rest stop for weary travelers along the trolley system, Comfort Station is currently a cultural center for exhibitions and events, including a music series. It is no longer a transitory site, a stop along the way, but instead it has become a destination.
For the exhibition, this video is available via a QR code. The only way to see the video when on site is via a remote device.
Here On The Way There conflates a site of destination and the idea of the traverse or journey that no longer necessitates physical travel. Using the green screen as an object that implies a platform for site (literally the emptied objects as a stage and a drop cloth), the interior space of Comfort Station becomes a threshold for the traverse of landscape and a portrait of place. The performer labors for her destination, ultimately remaining in the same position.
