The International Festival of Sacred Chant, organized by the Centro Culturale Aracoeli and by Vocalia Consort, is a unique musical event that takes place every year in June in the Basilica of Santa Maria in Aracoeli, offering the city evenings of choral music in one of the most symbolic places of Rome, crossroads of history, culture and spirituality.
In the various editions of the festival have performed some of the most important choirs at international level, including the Consortium Vocale Oslo (Norway), Vokalna Akademija Ljubljana (Slovenia), the Viktoria Kamarakorus (Hungary), the Liepzig Calmus Ensemble (Germany), Ars Cantica Choir (Milan), the Italian Youth Choir (Italy) and the Collegium of Music in Tallinn (Estonia).
The fourth edition of the International Festival of Sacred Chant is divided over three days: Friday 7, Saturday 8 to 21 pm, and Sunday 9 June 2013 at 12 noon.
This edition is dedicated to Great Britain, under the patronage of British Council and the Britten Pears Foundation. On the opening night, the Vocalia Consort, directed for the occasion by Maestro Philip Lawson, will perform a program entitled "Evermore," which features composers
of English ancient and contemporary tradition and celebrates in particular the music of Benjamin Britten.
The concert Saturday, June 8, at 21, will host the English quartet Gothic Voices, refined ensemble
dedicated in medieval music, with a fascinating program entitled "The Testament of Saint Gregory”.
Sunday, June 9 at 12 am, the final round of the Festival will see the performance of the Children's Choir of the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, conducted by Maestro José Maria Sciutto. Even the
young singers will pay homage to British music with compositions, by Chilcott and Rutter.
The concerts are free admission.
