Thanks for all your work Jeffrey! With an impending food crisis just around the corner, we can't let these megacorps frighten us into submission as they're seeking to do (think the latest UK 'Food 2030' report for example).

Maybe he should start reading and doing real science. What a non-sense.

    How did you figure that?

Sebastion, I have to say, he presented a much more compelling argument then you did!

Using an ad hominem attack, by implying his ignorance without proving it, in to attempt and discredit Jeffery, eh? Grow up, Sebastian!
  • chris mont 1 year ago
Really Sebastian? After a two hour that all you have to say? A 'useful' comment would be to point out why he wrong, not a blanket statement. A child can say that's stupid to everything he encounters, but that doesn't add any value.

    Trebor is right.

    Hi,

completely missed these replies, sorry. He is just one more of these guys earning money with the issue without talking nor referring nor doing proper science.

Ok, he for example claims that gene transfer had been proven. From his book Genetic Roulette:

"In the only human feeding study ever conducted on GM crops, long standing assumptions that genes would not transfer to human gut bacteria were overturned"

That is just wrong. There is - and I would be happy to find otherwise because that would make me really famous and be a nice Nature- or Science paper - no indication that any genes from any of our food plants or meat we ate had been integrated in the genome of humans or our gut bacteria ever in our history.

And there are so many other lies and unprecisive things he is saying. I could go on endlessly, but recommend e.g. wikipedia on the issue which is relatively balanced and has a lot of scientific references and also refers to conflict of interests by some of the scientists:
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genetically_modified_food_controversies

Dont fall for those arguments, just as you should not fall for the PR of the big companies. Try to find the correct picture, and you can do that if you stick to proper science sources and keep away from conspiracy theories.

    Cheers

    Sebastian

Yes Sebastian the test was not done in humans — it was done in rats or mice and the GMO was dropped from development as a result of the experiment confirming gene transfer to gut bacteria.

I don't think it would make you really famous, but if that's your motivation, good luck — you're an inspiration to all mankind I am sure.

Any other evidence against all these lies Jeffery cites like court tendered documentation of thousands of Monsanto's internal documents detailing habitual lying to their mates in Government and us the people?
  • Sebastian Olenyi plus 8 months ago
    Hi,

there was no GMO dropped from development as "a result of the experiment confirming gene transfer to gut bacteria."
If you know better, please claim your source.

Other academics have written almost a whole book dissecting the myths and lies - find it here: academicsreview.org/reviewed-content/genetic-roulette/

Was looking for something lively to put on my blog about GMO's and came across Jeffrey's video. I have been actively against GMO's for over 10 years. I have had students sign petitions to Barbara Boxer and Feinstein to get GMO's labeled. For me labeling has been the Biggie.

Here is a bit of serendipity if you will. I received an email from another great group just yesterday. My blog was due today but because of all this new information I have made some changes.

The group that contacted me was the Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund. I first contacted them after reading Building a Green Economy by Kevin Danaher. CELDF has taken our Declaration of Independence and Constitution and put it in the hands of local common ordinary people. By making local laws, and resolutions some as simply as, "We do not recognize any fictitious persons" cities, townships have stopped corporations dead in their tracks. Their site has, how to videos, sample resolutions, free legal advise, and between you and this group I hope to go to our city council and have a city ordinance that states, any product, in any store, that is a GMO must be labeled with a red dot on the signage. That's all. Just a single red dot on signage that is a GMO. Got'em!!! Labeled at last!!!!

Now the people here in San Luis Obispo will have a choice because every GMO is labeled. It didn't take an act of Congress, it didn't even require a State Law. At the local level we have more power and it makes a difference. I hope to goodness something like this starts your tipping point. If in fact 9 out of 10 people if given a choice would not pick GMO's then this should be just what the doctor ordered.

Congress is never going to do it. But here on the local level.......OMG we can do it.

I thank you so much Jeffery for what you are doing. You are embedded with all your information in my Attack of the Killer Tomato GMO story part 4 of 6. With you and all your information and with CELDF.org's help this is a win win and I am so very thrilled with it all. What were the chances that after 10 years of trying to make some sort of connection and difference it all happens with hours of each other. A little to close for comfort but I will take it. Thank you.

    Hi Jeffrey ...
    ... from Richard LaMarita
Love the work you are doing!
Come to our school, the Natural Gourmet Institute for Health and Culinary Arts, in NYC, a school that been in existence for 30 years and has been ahead of the food revolution curve for most of that time, and talk to us about your work. There wouldn’t be a person in the school who is not all ears!
I have been teaching there for the past 15 years.
We would love to host you.

    Jeffrey,

Could you please cite your sources? It would help convincing others (and me as well, altough I'm already inclined to believe you).

Besides, even if GMO's were safe, I'd still agree with the necessity for labeling and independent research before unleashing this on the general population.

An excellent presentation. Here in the Republic of Ireland GM is being heavily pushed by Dr. Shane Morris, who was employed as Senior Consumer Analyst at the Consumer Analysis Section of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. My brother-in-law, Nick Cullen, is involved in an ongoing dialogue in the pages of The Farmer's Journal, and has used much of your work to tear apart Morris' arguments, but the fight never seems to end.
BTW you can now watch the movie "The World According to Monsanto" over on youtube: youtube.com/watch?v=hErvV5YEHkE

Keep up the good work, you are an inspiration to us all.

I wouldn't be too keen on your brother-in-law Mr. Nick Cullen whose lack of facts have previously led to his numerous convictions and resulting suspended jail sentences can be trusted in any shape or form (see pg 10 here... revenue.ie/en/press/defaulters/def1_dec01.doc ). Maybe Green Party stall worth Trevor Sargent can write a letter to the cops for him

    I almost forgot:
The European Commission has just authorised growing genetically modified crops, putting the GM lobby's profits over the health concerns of the public. Click below and help build a one million strong citizen's petition calling for independent research and strong regulation of GM foods:

    Sign the petition! avaaz.org/en/eu_health_and_biodiversity/?cl=512836669&v=5655

    Dear friends,

The European Commission has just approved growing genetically modified crops in the European Union for the first time in 12 years!

Caving to the GM lobby, the commission has ignored 60% of Europeans who feel we have to get the facts first before growing foods that could pose a threat to our health and environment.

A new initiative allows 1 million EU citizens to make official legal requests of the European Commission. Let's build a million voices for a ban on GM foods until the research is done; they will be delivered to the President Barroso of the European Commission. Sign the petition and forward this message to friends and family:

    avaaz.org/en/eu_health_and_biodiversity/?vl

Consumers, public health, environmental and farmers groups have long rallied against a few international GM companies having such significant influence over European agriculture. Concerns about growing GM crops include: contamination of organic crops and the environment; their impact on climate due to the excessive need for pesticides; the destruction of biodiversity and local agriculture; and the effects of GM food on public health.

EU member states have voiced strong opposition to last week's decision to authorise BASF's potato and Monsanto's maize -- Italy and Austria are opposed, and France said it would ask for further scientific research.

There is still no consensus on the long-term effects of GM crops. And it is the GM industry, pursuing profits not public well being, that is funding the science and driving the regulatory environment. That is why European citizens are calling for more independent research, testing and precaution before crops are unleashed onto our land.

Now, the "European Citizens' Initiative" gives 1 million EU citizens the opportunity to submit policy proposals to the European Commission and offers us a unique chance to drown out lobbyists' influence.

Let's raise 1 million voices to put a moratorium on the introduction of GM crops into Europe and set up an independent, ethical and scientific body to research and determine the strong regulation of GM crops. Sign the petition now and then forward it widely:

    avaaz.org/en/eu_health_and_biodiversity/?vl

    With determination,

Alice, Benjamin, Ricken, Luis, Graziela and the entire Avaaz team.

Outstanding! Thank You, I will never believe we should genetically alter our food source. That alone is a scary
topic. I fought for many health food rights for decades throughout my life so far and this will be the toughest. We must all pull together--GMO'S are a danger to our foods, us and our children!

You seem keen on making sure my name is published yet use a online ID yourself. Probably because you know that what you have said about Nick Cullen is false, no numerous convictions and no suspended jail sentences. Which is why you've provided a link that does not work.

Sorry there Alhazred DeSane (aka Mr. Anthony Deegan) you are wrong....Nick Cullen (Nicholas Cullen) from Bally Sax is listed as farmer having 5 convictions 4 with suspended jail sentences...the link to the PDF (since archived) is revenue.ie/en/press/defaulters/archive/def1_dec01.pdf

why not ask him about it over a family dinner...:)
