slowLab (US/NL) and Martín Azúa Studio (ES) are pleased to co-present HUMAN CHAIR throughout the events of NY Design Week 2013.
A poignant and imaginative symbol of Slow design activism, a HUMAN CHAIR is a group of people coming together in a tight circle and carefully proceeding to sit on each other’s knees. They prop one on top of the other in friendship and fragile dependency, each person supporting the weight of another. The only ‘materials’ required are human bodies, shared space and the willingness to try!
In today’s ever-accelerating world, HUMAN CHAIR is a Slow reminder that personal encounters characterized by mutual trust and collaboration are not only good for the human spirit, but also are important tools for sensing and moving toward a richer, Slower, more sustainable future.
Amidst the frenzy of the New York design world celebrating the latest in material culture, HUMAN CHAIR helps people Slow down by demonstrating that some of the best things in life truly are free :)
