A Story Told Well Presents:

Miss Emily Brown with "World Traveller"

In September 2009, we spent a day with Miss Emily Brown in Vancouver, BC as she cooled her heels between tours and recorded material for her upcoming release "In Technicolour". A freshly-landed Hannah Epperson backs her up on violin, having just returned from a half year overseas in Berlin, Germany.

This song was recorded in a graveyard near Main and 25th as the sun settled in for the night, and its sombre tones seemed to settle in nicely between the plots surrounding us that evening.

Special thanks to the lovely Ms. Erin Loechner of Design For Mankind (www.designformankind.com) for hand crafting the flowing script that makes up the titling for the piece.

Emily's music can be purchased through these services:

    FANTASTIC MUSIC VIDEO!!!
did you use external mic during vid recording?
  •
  • A Story Told Well plus 1 month ago
Thx Twitchy, ya used a Sennheiser shotgun on-camera and mixed that with the audio recorded off-camera by a Zoom H4 in Hannah's violin case.

  •
  • A Story Told Well plus 1 month ago
Hey Cory. It's the Canon 5D MkII with a 35 1.4/L set on stun.

@AnthonyMead She'll do it every time... look up one of her shows if she rolls through your city.

Hey guys at Story Told Well!

This is fantastic, awesome! Did you shoot 30fps on Canon and recorded sound to video cam separately right? Did you encounter any limitations in post? ie: conforming to 25p with cine tools in case of Final Cut Studio?

    Amazing results! Well done!!

    Daaaaaaaaamn, beautiful song.

Not sure where Kenneth's coming from, but the sound is clean enough for my iPod anyday.

Thanks everyone! Emily thanks you as well.

@LightDropStudios After Effects adjustment layers. :)

@Lucas 30fps yes, sound on cam and off with sennheiser shot and Zoom h4. I export to H264 720p 30fps at 10mbps for vimeo... seems to work well without going 24 for intermediate. I'm going to leave the 24p to my new 7D. Results to come! :)

I enjoyed the song and video, but it seems that the sound is not always synced with the hand movements on the autoharp. Did you drop in music recorded from a different take than the video you used?
  •
  • A Story Told Well plus 1 month ago
@Gary There is a slight drift in the sync between the sources that is corrected every minute or so by a 1 frame drop in the sound... 44.1KHZ sources are not all cut from the same cloth it seems. All one shot, one take though.

@Kenneth My ipod has nothing but noisey records on it, so I can't relate... don't hate the hiss and hum though, it's the sound of the world around them.
  •
  • Erlingur 1 month ago
Amazingly well done! I loved the natural hum of the world around them.

The video is so beautiful. I love the shifting focus. Sorry if it's a silly question, but did you have all of the pulls worked out beforehand, or just kind of roll with it?

i can't think of many other superlatives that haven't already been used. It is goose bumpy visual and audio experience for me and that usually means it is extremely high in my recall/recommendation cue!

woow.. loved it... the music, and the way it is presented.. it feels like it's all around you!
  •
  • A Story Told Well plus 1 month ago
@Rachel Thanks! Ya, I had an idea of the song structure so tried to keep the changes in time with the music. As far as the length of the pulls, I was just doing it by eye... I stopped down a bit so that I wasn't dealing with the wafers of a 1.4...

@EveryoneElse Thanks so much for the support guys, your words are going a long way with us. :)
