On January 1, 2013, Engine 4 responded to National Dodge to a report of a subject not breathing and unresponsive. Upon arrival, JFD personnel found two civilians, David and Anastasia Rogers, performing CPR.
Captain Terry Cruse and Driver Operator Lawrence Abalos assisted with the compression and rescue breathing. They provided assistance to EMS by placing the monitor pads on the victim and using the AED to restore the victim’s pulse. EMS transported the victim to Onslow Memorial Hospital with a firefighter providing rescue breathing.
The victim has made a full recovery and is back at work.
David and Anastasia Rogers received the Civilian Commendation Award in recognition of their assistance in rendering aid to the victim of a heart attack on January 1, 2013. Captain Terry Cruse and Driver Operator Lawrence Abalos received the Life Saving Award for their response to that incident.
