Blender Fire V2, still WIP
Quick updates on what has changed so far.
* No longer really depends on the empties, should be able to get the whole thing done with texture nodes and modifiers. Ideally all with texture / material nodes but we'll see.
* More multi-directional / flexible, but haven't tried it on a classic flame thrower situation or anything like that yet.
* No longer depends on a fire shaped mesh. The example posted is the back of a unaltered (but uv unwrapped) Suzanne head. (Would make more sense if the mesh was in there. Still ironing out the compositing side of things)
* Define the parts of a mesh that are on fire simply by painting it on! ie. Paint a greyscale UV texture and assign it as a mask and fire will burn there. You will need to do it as a duplicate mesh of the mesh you want burning though. I'm trying to keep it as user friendly as possible so people can set it up and re-use it quickly.
Still a WIP, mainly working on the movement side of things at the moment. Very jittery at the moment, I think the various speed values need to be brought into line better.
Blend file coming when it is closer to 'useable.' There are currently nodes and textures all over the file.
Also worth noting - imagine this fire on top of a Suzanne head. Makes more sense visually that way, but haven't composited the head back in yet.

I want to say what I felt. It looks like a cloth Before a huge fan. May be because of experimental new approach.
as usual keep experimenting while sharing. keep-up the good work. :)
This is a WIP variation of "colour flame test" that makes the method more flexible. I can see in my head how some aspects are coming together, but fire is one of those effects that is only convincing when every aspect lines up right. Speed, movement, look, variations, randomness etc.
More to come soon.
