An equine veterinarian and his 18-year-old son have become bitterly estranged. A car accident, triggered by the son's drug addiction and involving a beautiful horse prized by both father and son, compels the two men to confront their wounded relationship. As "Caleb's Gift" reveals, forgiving is hardest when it's needed the most.
This is the 2013 re-edited and expanded version of my 2011 short film, with altered scenes and new material both from a November 2012 shoot and from the original December 2010 shoot.
I wanted to revise the film after listening to audience feedback.
"Caleb's Gift" was my very first screenplay and my first effort directing a dramatic narrative (if you don't count my high school Super-8 shenanigans or my 1986 Super-8 student film "The Diary").
The 2011 version was an official selection at The Cleveland International Film Festival, Louisville International Festival of Film, Columbia Gorge International Film Festival, Short.Sweet.Film Fest, and Silent River Film Festival.
