The film is a modern interpretation of a classic (practically a national treasure) Finnish song 'Päivänsäde ja menninkäinen' that loosely translates to 'The Sunbeam And The Elf'.The original song, playing during the film, tells a tragic story of dear friends, possibly lovers, Sunbeam and Elf separated by the impossibilities of the existing world; the Sunbeam cannot live in the dark while the Elf (or goblin if you will) cannot wander into the light.
For the film we reversed stereotypes and made the dancing boy the Sunbeam and his friend, the girl, the Elf. The boy knows that in order to continue with his passion, aka dancing, he needs to leave (his backstory pays homage to the likes of Billy Elliot etc.). While tragic, the girl understands that her friend, the Sunbeam, needs to leave (to the light) to achieve his dreams.
