The concert, "Songs of the Fertile Crescent," was performed at the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, NJ, on November 15, 2012. World premiere of suite of arias from the new opera, Territories (libretto by Palestinian American playwright Betty Shamieh and music by Andreia Pinto Correia), sung by Iranian soprano Haleh Abghari, and concert featuring women composers from the Middle East and Iberia. The concert was followed by an onstage discussion.
This event is part of the Fertile Crescent Project, a showcase of exhibitions, lectures, performances, film screenings, and events focused on women from the Middle East. There programs explore matters of gender, homeland, geopolitics, theology, the environment, and transnationalism. The Fertile Crescent Project took place at Rutgers and Princeton Universities, and the Arts Council of Princeton between August 2012 and January 2013. This event was taped by Joe Nanashe.
