Talk about signs from above...
As you may already know, I'm a Ron Howard / Canon Project Imaginat10n photo contest winner, and now I'm participating in the film contest.
On my very first blog post about the film, I shared an old picture of me as an actor, on set. My mouth was duct taped. A friend of mine commented, "So it wasn’t a speaking part then." I responded with, "lol. It sure wasn’t! As the muted lead, I had to channel Joe Morton in John Sayles’ The Brother from Another Planet!"
Days later, I head downtown to meet with the actress, who I desperately want to be in the film. Upon arriving at the cafe/venue, I realize that there's a screening scheduled. What's on the program? The Brother from Another Planet, and John Sayles is there!
But it doesn't stop there! I decide that the moment is too serendipitous to let it pass by, so I ask for a moment of his time and captured the quick clip below. (Unfortunately, I have to live with the fact that I was a nervous wreck and I screwed up his name. Oh well, you only live once!)
Some interesting Ron Howard / John Sayles trivia:
1. Both Sayles (Piranha) and Howard (Grand Theft Auto) had their first feature length screenplays produced by Roger Corman. Howard was also the director on his screenplay (his first feature).
2. Sayles was one of the writers on Howard's Apollo 13 and The Alamo (abandoned).
Some interesting John Sayles / Damon Colquhoun trivia:
I explain to my actress that Transporter is a sci-fi film that's really only about a family in Harlem. Minutes later, Sayles hits the stage and makes the point that The Brother From Another Planet is a sci-fi film that's really only about a guy in Harlem.
