51. No One Belongs Here …
The storm let out.
I've been so busy with grad school and shooting film that I haven't made anything in a week...which is weird for me. So today, I went outside and made this.

Sometimes, all we really want is those we love, closer to our hearts.
I am thankful for my friends and am blessed to know the people that I do. Thank you for being my friend.

Music: Loney, Dear - "Sinister In A State of Hope"

So nice. Really glad you made the most of the break in the storm.
  • I initially was going to do a thing that was the Anatomy of a swingset...in my backyard...come to find out there was a giant moat around it because of the rain/mud. I definitely fell in a couple times and dropped my camera. hahaha. so silly

    Your eyes are magic!
  • my eyes are heavy and tired right now, they don't seem very magical at all...very squinty and slits right now.

Sometimes i wonder ifpeople look at the same thing si do and see it as wonderful as that. Its really hard to capture what is in my head or what i feel. Its also hard to stay awake right now hahaa.
    Thanks bill you are awesome.

my work internet is getting stupid so this took like thirty minutes to load. but it was worth it.
your vignette effect always makes me think of silent films with the iris-ins to emphasize a certain part of the frame. cute. i'll call you tonight.

    Beautiful creation as always Karen.
  • hey chuck, my eyes want to go on a play date with your eyes and rem's eyes.

    haha
the idea of that is so gross...eyes jumping out of their sockets, grabbing sweaters and backpacks to go out and play.

    haha
  • Charlie McCarthy 7 months ago
It would be kinda gross but it would make a nice animation.

Karen, I wanted to ask you, do you know if uploading to vimeo takes away your (my) broadcast copy rights? I know on Youtube (boo tube) they take your rights, and ruin the quality of your vid due to compression.
  • oh jeeze i have no idea i would ask one of the staff members. I'm pretty sure it doesn't. If i use any copyrighted materials, I make sure and let the people (band) know what's up and if it's okay...just a good rule of thumb to have. But i don't know about taking rights.
  •
  • RyanRamtin 7 months ago
I'll find out. How do you export your vids, what settings? FCP? It's cause my buddy's just finished a horror short film and they wanted to post it. And I said "Vimeo is the place." Nice people and good images. What more could you want?!
  • In FCP..

I do Export as Quick Time Conversion
    then I pick Mp4

Then i change it to MP4
    and H.264
    Bit rate 3000
make sure the dimensions are right

    Then Audio click BEST

that should work its small and good quality
  •
  • great camera work! what kind of camera are you using?
  • I switch off between a Panasonic GS320 and a Panasonic DVX100A

Thanks again Spencer. You're very giving with your compliments. I appreciate them dearly.

is that an after effects thing... the dark edges... I'm falling in love here with these videos!
  • You can do vignetting in almost any editing software..okay i lied..more like premiere, final cut, avid,...more of the higher end ones. I am not sure if the lower ones do, they may, but I don't use them so I'm not sure. Most of my vignetting is post. I also have a wide angle lens that does natural vignetting.

Vignetting makes everything so much cooler.

    haha

It draws attention to the center of the video.

Karen! I've watched this vid a bunch of times (even two times without sound, so I could know that it really was the visuals I liked) and I really like it! You capture a really nostalgic mood and appreciative feeling towards the space. Each shot holds it's own little study of the space in a nice and playful way.

As much as I do like the music and what it does for the video, I think the piece is strong enough to work silently or with a soundscape made for it :)

I also felt that the shots didn't need the vignetting, I usually find post-production lighting to be distracting, but that's just me :p

Over all I really liked it and yeah, same as everyone; the shots of/from the swing= :)
  • Thanks Benk, that feedback is really appreciated. I actually agree with the Vignetting..on some. I just did these little videos to try different things out, they serve no great purpose other than to get out and shoot.

It's really weird because I had no idea this would turn out like this. The space I utilized looks pretty dead and gross but it ended up looking better than I had expected.

Thank you so so so much for your feedback again, I really appreciate it :-)

    Take care Benk!

This is one of the first videos I think I watched when I started getting into vimeo. It totally set the stage for the sort of quality and creativity I've learned to expect from vimean artists.
  • hahah..
    oh god

    I don't know if that's a good or a bad thing.

But I'm glad you saw this first out of my other videos, this one is somewhat heartwarming and endearing. And I mean it,

No one Belongs Here more than you.

    :-)

Thank you for being here Bryan.

Had to join to leave a message, but was worth it. My wake up today had more to do with letting go, than yawning and stretching. Yea you make beautiful films, but your inside beauty out weighs everything. I needed to find the great escape..thank you for this! Great films, great courage, great since of SPIRIT...Stay in the moment :)
  • Haha I am glad I roped you into joining vimeo, trust me this place is far more beautiful than this simple fickle video. You will not be disappointed with what you find here. Haha I'll need that inside beauty to make up for the lack of outside...haha just kidding.

Thank you for your kind words they are taken to heart and archived for memory purposes and warm feelings.

    :-)
