A Machine To Listen To The Sky is an audio-visual installation devised by sound artist Dan Tapper. It was performed on Thursday, 2nd May 2013 at The American Museum in Britain. Throughout the day visitors were able to listen to the sounds of VLF (very low frequency) electromagnetic radio picked up by two inductors elevated high above ground level by a tethered weather balloon.
The soundtrack is comprised of a short snapshot of some of the VLF recordings taken throughout the day along with diegetic sounds which document the day through sound - wind, visitors etc..
