This is a test using the Canon HV20 and the .66x Raynox HD-6600 Pro 52mm wide angle lens.

In two different scenes I show the expanded field of view provided by the lens. This isn't a test of the quality of the image or the zoom through capabilities. You can find that in other tests.

In my first few minutes with the lens, I'm very impressed. It fits on the HV20 very nicely, and using the DM-50, it's a very well balanced little machine. Nothing looks too big or awkward.

Wow. huge difference with the Lens. Can I ask how much it cost. My HV20 is coming soon and I am wondering about lenses/filters, etc. Thanks!

It was 139 at bhphoto. That included the step-up ring.

Thats a bigg diff. ive been leaning towards this lens. do you have any complaints or notice loss of image quality at all?

No complaints at all. I'd say it's a little soft at full zoom, but without a tripod it's useless footage anyways. It works great, don't notice any bending at the edges, and it looks nice on my hv20 and paired with a dm-50 mic. And for the price it's totally worth it. I can't imagine trying to get the same shots without the wide angle.

Im trying to decide between dm-50 and rode VM
  • You've probably made your decision by now, but I had a DM-50 on my Canon GL-1 and it wasn't good. I'd recommend the Rode VM.

would you say anything about getting one with a 43mm thread instead of the 52 and getting a step up?
  • Jared Lyon 9 months ago
Not sure if you've bought anything in the 3 months since you posted, but here's some more details.

I think that the 52mm model is by far the best. It seems to always get the best reviews. Here's a great comparison site:
    imagometrics.com/FLReviews/HV20_Wide.htm

Unfortunately, that site doesn't talk about a 43mm model. This other site does compare the 52mm versus the 43mm:
    raynox.co.jp/comparison/video/comp_hv20.htm#ra5243vs6600_43

Not the considerable corner blurring on the high res 43mm photo.
