On Shishapangma last spring, we encountered blue ice and rock on a route that is characteristically snow covered. A mess of ropes, most teams that climb this peak set fixed lines to protect tricky moves that gain access to the summit. Manpower and self preservation prevent the removal of this "rubbish" after a climb. Challenging at lower elevations, climbing blue ice and rock in crampons above 20,000 feet is an experience that certainly tests mettle. In this clip, you'll find a view including Chomolungma (Everest), Cho Oyu, Lhotse, Menlungtse (distinct, foreground), and the Changtang plateau.
