we finally took delivery of our production 7d cams :)

this is the 5d + 7d convergence. shot with 2 7ds, and one 5d, all in 24P. the 7ds were in 1080 24P, and the 5d was in 30P. it was then converted to 24P via the frame to frame 80% slowdown method.

i think it cuts together rather well.

  • 1.55 not a very good shot. Value ISO too high.

Huh? Looks exposed properly to me

totally disagree, I think its a great shot

i love the shot, i think it ends the sequence very well, but i do agree the iso values are higher than need to be. shooting in highlight tone priority, the min iso value is 200 and that is what the cam should be at for a shot like that. you can see in the blacks quite a bit of noise. it is a good thing it is properly exposed otherwise that noise would really come out.

    Dude that's a great shot, I think you're too high :) j/k

Also that smoke machine shot is EPIC! How many fogger's did they use to get that much coverage?

That is some of the best steadicam stuff I have seen in a long while. Aside from the groom's entrance, those shots looked like they were on rails! Amazing. Whomever is walking that rig around is a master- especially if there's just a still camera on it. (or have you "stabilized" your stuff in post?)

Great cut. Well timed. Rack focus in camera? If so, well done. So few try that and it really adds polish.

thanks for the kind words. that is all straight out of the camera. as for the groom's entrance, that was an interesting shot. with two photographers right in the way i had to pull the shot from the ceiling down and around to minimize them in the frame. in the end, you barely notice them and i got to the groom, so it saved the shot :)

So I'm just starting to learn my Steadicam - that shot at 2:49? Between the pews? Not your first time flyin that move huh :) very nice work
  • Jeff Brouillet plus 2 years ago
that's the first time I've ever seen that shot, loved it :)
  • stillmotion pro 2 years ago
i think it's he first time i have seen it too, but i am sure there are others that are similar. as long as the sequence and story is original, some shots will certainly look the same as we are so involved with every film we shoot.

Oh no, what I meant was, damn, that must have been difficult to negotiate through the pews with a steadicam rig on, even if its the Pilot. Very nice work, I need to attend your steadicam workshop :)
  • stillmotion pro 2 years ago
it was a tough one. but, last minute with the bride coming down you just make it work.

we actually don't offer steadicam workshops. we have our evo experience, and steadicam hosts their workshop at our studio in conjunction with that.

    Very Good ! Muy Bueno!
I did my first SDE last Friday with a combination of 5D and 7D. I kept 7D in 30F to match 5D. I was terrified not having time sufficient to deal with the conversion.
Frame to Frame 80%? how really works?
    Thanks

I'd love to see a shot of the rig you fly. How set up is the camera when flown on the steadicam, or do you strip it down?

All I can say is your team ROCKS. Smooth and deliberate flying while controlling the focus. I'll sum it up by saying it made my eyes very happy, every frame.

Beautiful: great use of depth-of-field, good travelling (the one in the church with a girls legs in the foreground is great) and a fantastic edition. Congrats!

QUESTION: What is the best method you have found to capture the audio with the Canon cameras? And how is that working out when doing an SDE?
    Thanks!
