I always try not to use lame critiques like 'wow' or 'amazing'....but dude! this is so killer.
  • Lucasberg (Joey) 2 years ago
True, I have run out of words to really say how AWESOME these are.
  • Jorge Bicer 2 years ago
Yeah, there's really nothing more to say than what 180+ people said here... I just can't wait to see what you will be doing in 10 years from now... where you'd be! You are an inspiration to alot of people, keep it up!

Crystal clear. I think I'll buy an intervalometer when I sell my Mark II and buy a 7D :)
  • Sterling Morris 2 years ago
Sean, I am debating between a 7d and 5d. I have been under the impression that a 5d has better color and depth of field... What are the advantages of switching to a 7D? Were you simply speaking, "tongue-in-cheek" or do you see advantages to the 7d. Your input would be greatly appreciated.
  • Tom Lowe pro 2 years ago
The only reason to switch to 7D would probably be for 24p video. But of course, the firmware coming to the 5D2 will soon resolve that.

Hey tom, I"m having a hard time believing image at :59 seconds and at 2:20 is real, you can actually see all those stars and the whole milky way like that without a telescope or anything in the mountains?

    that's amazing if true
  • Hassan, the camera, using a 30 sec exposure, can see stars that you won't see if you were standing there. That's why it doesn't look real.
  • Tristan H. 2 months ago
Hassan, the images are slightly exaggerated from real life, but on a moonless night in the mountains of Yosemite, you can see the Milky Way galaxy clearly and it's quite a stunning sight. I'd say it's about 80% true to life in brightness, but with your eyes there is less color to it.

Still, to me, one of the wonders of the world. The camera emphasizes it only slightly more, and it feels far more majestic and humbling when you see it with your own two eyes. I highly recommend a trip to a dark place to enjoy the same.

Just when you think you have seen HD Timelapse on the Sony EX-3 you bring it to a new level using a Canon 5DMk11 in HD movie mode, some cracking WA glass and a timelapse self made dolly...this should win Timelapse of the year award.

In terms of sheparding These Short Days to completion, you should talk to the BBC worldwide. They are the most dedicated of producers of this kind of artform.
    Good luck with the film.

    yes, usually during night shots.
  •
  • Ok its official I'm blown away!

One question, how do you keep the dew off the lens? I always have problems with that.
  • Tom Lowe pro 2 years ago
It's so dry here in California that it has never been an issue for me. I do own some Kendrick Firefly lens warmers, though, if it ever comes down to it.

Hey Tom. Your Daaa Maannn once again. Really awesome stuff as per usual. Loved the music. Very atmospheric. I have used a bit of James Newton Howard on my last clip which was great. Hope he doesn't find out and sue my dumb aussie ass.

You got all the big guns commenting on your latest vid which is unreal. I'd love to do some of this stuff in the Kimberley one day. Only problem is the croc's which like white meat for a midnight snack.

Keep up the good work and I'm looking forward to seeing the next 9 minute epic.

    Mike

I noticed as the sun came up on some scenes that the stars were still visible in the sky. How is that possible without some editing of the images?
