168 countries gathered in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, in 2005, to put in place measures everyone - governments, parliaments, mayors, schoolchildren - can take to reduce the impact of natural disasters. They came up with 5 priorities in the Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA) - to write disaster risk reduction into law, to increase disaster prevention and warning, boost public awareness, bring into account climate change and mitigate disasters, and increase preparedness. The next HFA will take place in 2015, where representatives of governments will come up with a new framework for action. UNISDR (UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction) showed this short film during the Global Platform held in Geneva in May 2013.
