2. Introduction to HTML 5
2 months ago
Are you interested in HTML 5 and what's coming down the pipeline but haven't had time to read any articles yet? I've put together an educational "Introduction to HTML 5" video that goes over many of the major aspects of this new standard, including:

* Web vector graphics with the Canvas tag and Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG)
* The Geolocation API
* HTML 5 Video
* The HTML 5 Database and Application Cache
* Web workers

The video is chock full of demos and sample source code.

(Note to moderators: HTML 5 is a public open web standard. I'm helping to educate web developers and raise awareness of this open web standard).

    Nice intro to HTML5 and I really enjoyed the content. One thing you might want to look out for next time: the audio is clipping in a bunch places and it makes it a little hard to listen. If you're going to keep doing these, you might want to invest in a higher quality mic and recording setup.

    Overall, wonderful content, and please keep doing them. :)

    I liked your introduction, but wish you could trow in more input about the database layer in HTML5. Good work though.

    Nice Video! Just a quick note about the SVG stuff: it was possible to put SVG graphics and HTML markup right into the same document, even before HTML5. So the reason this doesn't get as much publicity may be that it's not that new. Albeit it's much easier with HTML5 now.

    Here's a test page of SVG working within XHTML 1.1 (obviously this doesn't work in IE):

    The unique thing about HTML 5 is it lets you drop SVG right into a normal, non-XHTML page, making it a native part of HTML. That's new and unique :) XHTML has simply not taken off, IMHO, and breaking SVG away from it so that it can enhance HTML is the right thing.

    Hi Brad,
    Great presentation. Thanks! ;)

    Do you have the slide deck available anywhere? (On scribd, slideshare, etc?) - then I could add it as a reply to this phz.in/1qjc

    Many thanks again,
    kosso / phreadz
