Japanese Bees Swarm Tactic
Native Japanese honeybees devise a ingenious way to kill hornets. Bees' stingers have little effect on hornets due to the hard exoskeleton. In comparison to the European honeybee, which a defense against intruders such as hornets on the hive is to swarm the entrance of the hive and attack individually on the intruder, the Japanese honeybee work together and swarm the hornet. Instead of trying to sting, the combined mass of the bees vibrating their muscles bring the center mass temperature to 45C. At this point, the hornet dies. The temperature at which the bee will die is 48C and that small difference gives the bees the upper hand.
Quite amazing.
