Through the Healthy Parks Healthy People Active in Parks Program, Parks Victoria is assisting people with a disability to be more active and feel healthy by improving their access to Victoria’s natural environment.
A year ago, Parks Victoria approached Blind Sports Victoria with the aim of encouraging people who are blind or have a vision impairment to get more involved in Victoria’s parks. As a result the Walk in the Park program was established, which arranged day walks to parks surrounding Melbourne. This is the second year the program has been running, and for the first time Parks Victoria and Blind Sports Victoria have collaborated to organise a 3-day walking trip to Wilsons Promontory National Park. This film documents the walking trip held at Wilsons Promontory, as well as the views and experiences of walking group participants, volunteers and staff members who took part.
For more information about getting involved in similar activities held in Victoria’s parks, please visit our website at parks.vic.gov.au or call Parks Victoria on 13 1963.
