Went for a ride at Yudicky Farm in Nashua, NH with my friend Joe on a beautiful Sunday. It was my first time around there, and Joe was leading me around some of his favorite trails.
I hereby offer that my unfamiliarity with the trails and my poor night's sleep before riding as explanations for my frequent dabs and that one stupid fall. =)
We headed in through the Development Trail, then over a paved section, and cut in to get onto Barbed Wire. I must've smacked my derailleur on something earlier in the ride, because when I downshifted for the steep climbs on Barbed Wire (after losing all my momentum before entering the descent), the derailleur went into the spokes and was torn in half.
I fashioned it into a "ghetto singlespeed" and was able to ride it (gingerly) out of the woods.
Not one to miss an opportunity for an upgrade, I swapped it out for a new Shimano RD-M772 SGS, which uses their new low-profile "Shadow" design... hooray for bike bling!
