A documentary about Colonial India, Death of an Empire, provides a glimpse of the British rule in India, and one of the worst massacres in modern history. When a British general opened fire on a crowd of 20,000 people who were peacefully assembled on private property in Jallianwala Bagh, India, more than 1,000 innocent men, women and children were killed, and at least 1,500 were injured. Even now, almost 100 years later, the British government has failed to apologize for this despicable act.
This massacre fueled the Indian independence movement, and Indians finally kicked out the British in 1947 using non-violence and civil disobedience as their tools against the mighty British army.
