Matt: Oh hey Karen I'm coming over, I've got an idea for a stop motion.

Karen: Alright. See you in a bit.

(I love my BFF Matt) I also love my room. And I never want to leave it because there's so much to do. (Check out the pictures)

I wanted to shoot it like this because I love that Vimeo keeps the size/shape of my videos. Holy GIANT video BATMAN! I'm this video and I am LARGE and in CHARGE! I was going to make it smaller, but I think the fact that it's so huge is hilarious to me. If you want to see it at a smaller size just got o my blog entry: karenabad.tumblr.com/post/25801015

Square, rectangles...circles are next...thanks for letting me play with you Vimeo. Haha.

Dear Vimeo, I love you.

and all along i thought that it wasn't the size of the surprise
but rather the motion of the ocean...

    innovative as always.
  • i like to test things out....different things.
  • ishan 8 months ago
you know that i wasn't knocking the hugeness of your clip, right?

you guys were just making big bootey jokes
and that phrase came to mind.
  • hahah yeah for sure ishan. I got lost and couldnt find the comments cause the video was SOOO BIG!! hahah.

so ishan when are we kicking it live and making a film?

did you enter something into the Humboldt film festival?

I have problems entering film festivals because 1) i'm broke and 2) i don't have anything that i'm ultra proud of to enter. Just some rinky dinky stuff i make that probably isn't worth the small financial investment of a film festival.

i got a story i really want to do.
    too long to post here.
    but short enough
to shoot in a day or two.

    you d.p.?
  • I am gonna read it when I get up tomorrow, I don't think my brain is in the right mindset to read it right now. I ill be messaging you back. Yeah that sounds good. I'm down to film/kick it.

    I love this!
  • Thanks a lot Eugenia. Those it was somewhat tedious to make for something so fickle and short, Matt and I are still friends. haha :-)

I love it too... I also love the nice comment, Eugenia. My job is done.

    Very nice.

How did you get the petals to stay in mid air when you were taking the photo?
  • fishing line! actually nylon thread..which didn't really work out because you could see it *(and you still can on a lot of the pictures)....I had to go in and photoshop hundreds of pictures.

to get rid of the shadows or lines.

had I lit it better, i wouldn't have that problem, but we were shotty and lazy.

but fishing line is a great thing. You know film a scene of someone throwing a bunch of..ugh...apples? and next shot have it suspended by fishing line....then u know rotate the camera...matrix right there.

    haha

    thanks bucky. <3

so what did that take you like an hour or something? Forty-five minutes?
    haha
the colors are really weird...in a good way. Like otherworldly.
It doesn't fit in my browser! übervideo.
  • I'll have you know that i DID NOT ..repeat DID NOT color correct this.

    at all.

    just lit it.
    haha

  • Bryan Wuest 8 months ago
wow really? i like that blue wall.
    ten minutes?
  • that blue is from our posterboard
    from constructionpaper palooza
its so Effed up cause ive used it a lot for different things i need to get a new one..more vibrant colors.
  • also it took more like 5 hours to do

and then about 10 hours to photoshop

    thats mixed in with distractions.

I like your videoes, have small very interesting details.

In Spanish when desojamos daisies we say:

Me quiere, no me quiere, me quiere......
  • Thanks Juanma.

Hopefully mine ends with He loves me.

    If not..that's okay too. haha

:-) i like your avatar its so funny to me. When i lived at my old house my roomates would always have parties and evertime they did i would take a picture of this guy in the same spot in the kitchen always wearing the same hoodie and holding the same kind of beer. Everytime I saw him I would print off the previous pictures and let him hold it to take another picture. :-)

haha geez Sam i didnt know you knew that word haha!! just kidding little bro.

but anyways i was just watching this again and i really think that making this video as big as it is, makes it perfect! haha good job Karen!
  • aww thanks you two.

i wish my lil bro was on vimeo too.

i dont think he's into videos though. haha
i gave him a video camera for his birthday last year
and he never used it so i mailed it to my best friend
    hahaa

i wish he made more videos.
  • AbOwLoFsUnShInE! 8 months ago
ya i guess it is pretty sweet that my brother shares the same video making passion like i do.

but with my brother the only problem is that he will start filming me while im singing to myself in the car or snoring while im sleeping or just doing something embarrassing haha. so some videos i wish he wouldnt make haha!
  •
  • how did you compress this to make it so big? or is this just an option in vimeo? just curious. im kinda new in this vimeo world. great stop motion!
  • hahah I made a sequence in FCP that was 1000X1504! So huge!

When you import into vimeo it retains the size of your file! Pretty awesome. If you have any questions about this new vimeo world, we're all here to help one another, please don't hesitate to ask! <3 Welcome to vimeo! We are glad you are here!

the colors are inspiring. We are moving into a new apartment in April. i might try and recreate this idea in a certain room. thanks to you!
  • Oh man I can't wait make sure you let me know when you do it! My subscriptions tend ot get lost cause there are so many, and I don't want to miss it!
  • kodachrome 7 months ago
now i better do it for sure! ok. you'll be the first to know. (maybe i will set up your video to loop in the room.) that would be too fun.
  • I wish i had access to more Televisions. I want a room that's filled with TVs playing videos all the time.

Sergei Eisenstein, in due course, was seriously puzzled by vertical frame. He did samples and analyzed the human perception of such a frame format. Why did he not made a movie of this kind? Maybe vain?
  • It was definitely hard to come to terms with, but I love experimentation. I even did a Circle video, but it looked really bad so I didn't post it.

I think it worked for this. But i don't intend on shooting things vertically anymore. haha. Oh Sergei.

  • chipi-chipi 7 months ago
I love it!!!!!!!!! I really like the vertical way!!!
i wanna make something in that way is awesome!!!!!! thanks!!! :)
  • FCP is awesome you can make your projects whatever dimension you want :-) Well i'm sure other editing programs do that too haha.

    Thanks so much chipi chipi

I enjoyed the fact that I couldn't see the whole video in my browser window at one time - I had to pay attention, be interactive, and scroll up and down to see different parts of the video. It's kind of like zooming in for a detailed view - nice work!
  • Oh no! haha. On my computer it BARELY fits when the browser is maximized.haha. I'm glad that this turned into an interactive experience. Thanks so much for checking it out!
