A person's past can either define them or refine them. The Apostle Paul had such a past that consisted of the persecution of the followers of Christ. He credits his transformation of a preacher of the gospel to none other than the supernatural work of the Holy Spirit that takes the knowledge of Christ or identifying with Him and recreates the soul of a human being to love Christ and hate sin. One who has experienced this rebirth can say with confidence that their identity is in Christ, and thus, their past can refine them into the person God has called them to be.
