Science for the Public 5/29/13, with Friends of the Robbins Library. Amy Smith, Founder and Director of the famous D-Lab at MIT discusses the kinds of projects that have made the D-Lab an icon of international humanitarian work. The engineering students and D-Lab staff collaborate with villagers in the developing world to create machines, tools and processes that significantly improve lives. The philosophy of the D-Lab is that the people must participate in creating and developing these innovations. As a result, even the poorest villages discover their creative capacity and they produce entrepreneurs along with real improvements.
