REHEARSAL LAST SUPPER was produced in Johannesburg in march 2007 and presented as an art video installation in the Artist-In-Residence space 'The Bagfactory'. Young actors from the Market Theatre Laboratory and the Witwatersrand University Drama Department participated in this project, an improvisation around a short 20 second slapstick-scene which becomes less and less funny through the use of all kinds of slurs (in English, Afrikaans, Zulu, Seotho, Xhosa ea) reflecting the prejudices and hidden discrimination in South Africa. Exactly one year later the terrible xenophobic riots in some of the townships of Johannesburg led to many killed people from other African countries. - Dealing with prejudices as jokes might sometimes liberate to confront yourself with your own hidden forms of discriminating others, can even be the first step to face it, but if further steps are not taken, it's a timebomb for racism.
